2009 Hong Kong 200

Sharing from     Kwan Lok Tin, Wesley (7B)

The "Hong Kong 200" is a leadership development project for young people initiated by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. The 10-year programme aims to enhance young people's social responsibility and reinforce their willingness to give back to the community. It selects 200 youth leaders every year for intensive training in Hong Kong and the Mainland.

As a participant of the project this year, I have taken part in different training and workshops. Through the training workshops organized by the HKFYG, my leadership skills are developed. Besides, the sharing sessions of community leaders and youth forums allow me to have an in-depth understanding about the city as well as the country. I also have the opportunities to visit the offices of the central government in Hong Kong and meet the government officials there. The valuable experiences definitely have broadened my horizons.

The "Hong Kong 200" project always emphasizes the importance of critical thinking. Participants all have a chance to analyze the government policy and give suggestions to the government. To show our concern for the society, we have written a "Youth Policy Address" and proposed some ideas to the Chief Executive on how he can deal with the political, social and economic problems in Hong Kong. It is our conviction that as long as we dare to speak, we can add colors to Hong Kong's future.

1. Sharing session by Miss TAM Wai-chu, Maria, G.B.S., J.P. about "One Country, two system"
2. Sharing session by Professor Ma Ngok of CUHK about the constitutional development in Hong Kong

4. Raising a question to the guest speaker
5. Group discussion immediately after a talk
6. Meeting with Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare
