The Global Youth Ministers 2011

Sharing from     4A Leung Yuk Kit Justin & 4C Lau Ching Yan Tiffany

We would like to share our feelings after joining a programme called the Global Youth Ministers 2011 organized by the Hong Kong Young Leaders Development Association. The Global Youth Ministers 2011 is a conference-based event. Its aims are to increase participants' awareness to global issues and to help them develop a sense of global citizenship through different summits. This year, we gathered to discuss and exchange ideas about global water crisis.

Before attending the event, we were quite nervous since the delegates were from many different schools. However, we found that they were friendly and nice as we were having the first meeting. We shared and talked about global issues. After several workshops, we became friends and had enjoyable moments all the time. In the workshops, the advisors drew our attention to global water crisis and the related problems. It strengthened our knowledge of current global issues.

In each workshop, there were social games. We needed to cooperate with other students, and it helped us to enrich our social life and develop a better personality. Furthermore, the talks held by the professors from different universities were inspiring, and it was the most efficient and direct way to help us understand more about international issues.

The most unforgettable moment was having the cultural night in the camp. Our delegates all put on different costumes, representing not only the nation, but also the cultural background behind the national flag. We were asked to cooperate with 2 different countries and give a performance. It was enjoyable and we all had a good time!

The Global Youth Ministers 2011 provided us with a platform to communicate with different people, and it encouraged us to voice our opinions in English. You may have some difficulties at first, but there are friends and people who always give support and advice to you. We hope that more students will join the programme next year after reading our sharing!
