Fieldwork-based learning

Field trips were organized whenever possible to train students to solve authentic problems and gain first-hand information for learning. Examples include field-study camps arranged by field-study centres.

Problem-based learning

Students conduct case studies of arious topics such as urban problems in Hong Kong. Based on variety of first-hand and second-hand information, they analyze the problems and suggest solutions. For example, based on the principles of town planning they learned, students plan the future land use pattern of inner city areas such as To Kwa Wan and Sham Shui Po.

Use of information technology in learning

Virtual reality and mobile learning are widely used in both classroom and field study. Our school is also currently a pilot school of the EduVenture VR (a virtual reality learning platform run by Centres for Learning Sciences & Technologies, CLST, the Chinese University of Hong Kong).

Town Planning as a way of authentic learning

Planning exercise has been a way to improve the effectiveness of Geography learning. Planning exercises of urban renewal and coast development have been offered to students. With support from Town Planning Department, they have gained valuable experience of solving spatial problems by planning.

All-around education

Field trips were organized to train students to solve authentic problems and gain first-hand information for learning. Our students also served as Geoconservation ambassadors to explore the Geo wonders of Hong Kong.
