Reading across curriculum

To nurture the reading habit and enhance the reading atmosphere in our school, S.2 students joined a project called 'Reading Across Curriculum'. S.2 students learnt some reading strategies like setting goals and drawing mind map from the teachers of English and Integrated Humanities, then they chose some books to write a reading report. After the reading, the horizon of the students are boardened and the reading skills are improved as well.

S.1 field trip

In May, form 1 students went to Old District Office North (now Law Ting Pong Scout Centre) in order to do a project of adaptive re-use. Students are required to walk around the building and find out the architectural and historical features of the building.

S.1 field trip (Tai Po new town)

In order to explore the community around the students, they are required to walk around in Tai Po. Students found out a lot of features of new towns. To name a few, there are less air pollution and more parks comparing to the main urban area.

Afterwards, students are required to write a mini-report on evaluating the quality of life in Tai Po.

S.2 Reading Across Curriculum Programme

A Reading Across Curriculum Programme was conducted in this year. With the collaboration of English and Integrated Humanities teachers, S.2 students are given some books to read. Then, they have made some projects to present the books to other students. In the showcase, students have to use English for communication or answering questions from the visitors. Teachers selected the group of the most aspiring teenage historians, reporters and explorers. The three groups were then assessed to get the Grand Award by the judging panel.

Field trips

Our students have plentiful chances of studying outside their classroom. For example, they visited Dr. Sun Yat Sen Museum, Ma On Shan water Treatment Works, Central and Lung Yeuk Tau Historic Trail.
Unlike a guided tour, these field trips require them to learn and explore by themselves.

Problem-based learning - Adaptive re-use of historic buildings

Our S.2 students visited some historic buildings in Tai Po. These buildings can be dated back to early colonial period.
Based on what they learn about the buildings from the visit and from internet search, they proposed plans to re-vitalize those buildings.

Historic photo study

Historic photos of Tai Po were provided to our students. They collected information about the features shown in the photo.
They also explored the changes that happened to the places shown in photos, either by visiting them or using information technology.
