Prologue
After the storm of the DSE, it's time to harvest our fruit and bid a bittersweet goodbye to our adolescence. Standing on the threshold of graduation and poised to turn a new leaf, this memoir serves as a record of the mosaic of peaks and valleys, interwoven in the fabric of my five years of secondary school.
Riveting Stories
Unfurling my tapestry unveils the ecstasy of the busking shows, the thrills of performing experiments in laboratories, the laughter when designing boards and the tremor when sharing human anatomy with P6 students. Not to mention the exhilarating moments when juniors invited me to take selfies in S5 and S6! If asked to pick the most memorable one (what a tough task for decidophobic Summi!), the English Debate Team stands out the most. Late-night meetings, adrenaline rush, and bonds deeper than words - the unseen blood, sweat and tears are exhausting yet enthralling.
Blessings in Disguise
Amidst turmoil, WSC has been my shelter. Reminiscing on my Odyssey, teachers like Mr Yam Yee Kin, Miss Yu Yuk Hei, Mr Kwong Chun Yu, Ms Lam Mei Ling and Mr Yu Cho Fai, kindled my passion, satisfying my thirst for the academic realm with thought-provoking lessons. Meanwhile, the endless support and opportunities given to me by Mr Tse Chung Man, Ms Lam Wai Yee, Ms Kwan Wan Fei, Ms Ng Yuk Lun, Ms Leung Tsz Yan and Ms Lee Ka Jane, and all other teachers played an integral role in shaping who I am. Not to mention Miss Siu Ying Pui, the laboratory technician who assisted us with her extensive knowledge throughout the Chemistry Olympiad. Their guidance was indubitably the lighthouse that lit my path.
Weaving Networks, Intricate Bonding
I vividly recall the coincidental encounter with Professor Leung Pak-heng during the Alumni Homecoming Day 2023. A mentor who renders unconditional encouragement to me whenever I am in despair. Inspired by him, as an alumnus, I pledge to pay it forward for juniors wrestling with stumbling blocks. Dear friends, remember to count on and rely on each other through insurmountable predicaments!
The Take-home Message
“What does time mean to you?”
Some may say time is joy, time is sorrow, time is pain. Abstract yet concrete, time has taught intangibility yet value beyond riches. It is much more precious than diamonds and gold. Think about it - how could we "buy" back the lost time during the COVID-19 pandemic?
As the playwrights of our lives, it is up to us to direct whether our stories will be run-of-the-mill or one-of-a-kind. Time is like words, and each story has a word limit. It has come to the very moment that time accounts for literally everything. Only after time we take for granted is wasted do we realise how precious it is, ironic, right? Still, as long as the stories are not thrown into the abyss of oblivion and are cherished, time is spent meaningfully.
Well said by Mr Yam, “To mean what you say, to obtain the unobtained better you.” Inevitably, we struggle with adversity and make mistakes. Unfortunately, we will only come across more. Nonetheless, stay resilient upon startling challenges, stay humble upon triumphant success, and stay strong despite crushing failure. Beyond doubt, carrying perseverance, kindness, and dedication to perfection as our guiding stars amid chaos shall chart the course to an extraordinary life.
Epilogue
As the final bell tolls and we spread our wings, the bundle of delight, despair, fury and fear is now the past tense. Please do not feel sad because the chapter ends; instead, be happy because it happened in the first place.
Ending my verbosity, thank you, every one of you, for being an indispensable part of my journey. While what comes next remains unwritten, let's have our fingers crossed that each tale we knitted will surpass the last.
